Anderson becomes 43rd Osprey to reach majors
MISSOULA, MONT - Chase Anderson (2009) became the 43rd Missoula Osprey alum to reach the major leagues today, when the Arizona Diamondbacks recalled the right-hander from Double-A Mobile.
Anderson was a strong part of the Osprey pitching staff in 2009 that pushed eventual champion Orem to three games in the Pioneer League Championship Series. He was 3-1 for the Osprey with a 2.38 ERA with 49 strikeouts in 45 1/3 innings pitched both as a starter and as a reliever.
The ninth round selection of the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 2009 First-Year-Player draft (one round after Paul Goldschmidt), Anderson has dominated Double-A Southern League hitters in 2014 posting a 4-2 record with a 0.69 ERA allowing just three earned runs in 39 innings of work. He was recently named the organization's Pitcher-of-the-Month for April and carries a 20-inning scoreless streak over his past three starts.
Anderson becomes the first Osprey alum to make his major league debut in 2014. In 2013, three O's alums reached the big leagues - Ender Inciarte, Mike Belfiore and Charles Brewer.
May 17 marks the first opportunity for fans to purchase non-packaged tickets to see the Osprey at Ogren Park Allegiance Field in 2014.
This summer's home opener on June 19 versus Great Falls will mark the Osprey's 16th season in Missoula and their 11th playing in Ogren Park Allegiance Field.
