RiverDogs Host Sand Gnats in Four-Game Series

Charleston squares off against Southern Division leader in final homestand of first half

CHARLESTON, SC - The Charleston RiverDogs will invite the Savannah Sand Gnats to Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park for a four-game series that runs from Thursday, June 5 through Sunday, June 8. The Sand Gnats are currently leading the Southern Division while the RiverDogs are still in contention for the first-half title. This is the last homestand at The Joe before the All-Star Break.

Thursday, June 5, 7:05 pm: Budweiser Thirsty Thursday, sponsored by 95SX, packs the Ashley View Pub with $1 drafts and DJ Natty Heavy. Wild Wing Café will also have a wing-eating contest in the Ashley View Pub. It is United States Air Force Night, featuring a pregame swearing in of USAF airmen. The RiverDogs are partnering with Palmetto Goodwill for the Goodwill Homestand and the "Drive for 5," with a goal to collect 5,000 pounds of donations. Any fan who brings a tall kitchen bag full of donations will receive a free voucher to a future RiverDogs game. Nurses Night will be celebrated, and one lucky nurse will receive a $500 scholarship check during a special on-field presentation. Palmetto Brewery and Awendaw Green are also sponsoring a concert by Trey Cooper and the Gino Castillo Quartet. The concert will be held adjacent to the Beer Garden and will start near the end of Thursday's game.

Friday, June 6, 7:05 pm: 103.5 WEZL presents ISHPI Red Shirt Friday. Wear red to the game and save $1 off your ticket purchase at the box office or donate that dollar to Canines for Veterans and Folds of Honor. May the force be with you on Star Wars Night with appearances from the 501st Legion as well as R2-D2. The RiverDogs wear their red jerseys on Fridays and enjoy the services of Titus the Wonder Dog, who will serve as a batdog for an inning. The RiverDogs are partnering with Palmetto Goodwill for the Goodwill Homestand and the "Drive for 5." Any fan who brings a tall kitchen bag full of donations will receive a free voucher to a future RiverDogs game. Visit the Ashley View Pub for $3 Aluminum Pint Night from Miller and Coors. Stick around after the contest for another amazing postgame fireworks display over the scenic Ashley River.

Saturday, June 7, 6:05 pm: Larry Doby Heritage Weekend, presented by South Carolina State University, kicks off with the Jackie Robinson Kansas City Monarchs Jersey Giveaway for the first 1,000 fans through the gates, courtesy of WCSC Channel 5. Also, the 1955 Cannon Street All-Stars will be honored in a pregame ceremony. The RiverDogs are partnering with Palmetto Goodwill for the Goodwill Homestand and the "Drive for 5." Any fan who brings a tall kitchen bag full of donations will receive a free voucher to a future RiverDogs game. Social Media Saturday offers fans the chance to make requests to the RiverDogs on Facebook and Twitter for music, promotions and other ballpark features. After the game, kids can run the bases.

Sunday, June 8, 5:05 pm: The RiverDogs and the Sand Gnats will wear Negro Leagues uniforms on Sunday for Larry Doby Heritage Weekend, presented by South Carolina State University. Clifford Layton, a former pitcher for the New York Black Yankees, is going to throw a ceremonial first pitch and sign autographs at the game. The Lawrence Holt Scholarship winner will be announced as well. It is CCPRC and Crews Subaru Kids Club Sunday, sponsored by Y102.5. All children in attendance receive a coupon for a free hot dog, a fountain drink and chips for Kids Eat Free, courtesy of Pepsi. Parking is free on Sunday, and all members of Charlie's Kids Club get into the game for free. Pregame catch on the field and postgame autographs with the RiverDogs are also available for all fans. The RiverDogs are partnering with Palmetto Goodwill for the Goodwill Homestand and the "Drive for 5." Any fan who brings a tall kitchen bag full of donations will receive a free voucher to a future RiverDogs game. Ted from Ted's Butcher Shop is the celebrity "Smokin' Chef" and will be serving up food from the RiverDogs' new meat smoker. Fans who wear seersucker to the game on Seersucker Sunday can save $1 off their ticket purchase at the box office or donate that dollar to the Preservation Society of Charleston and the Historic Charleston Foundation.

Charleston also opens the second half of the season with an eight-game homestand, starting with a nationally-televised contest against the Kannapolis Intimidators on CBS Sports Network on Thursday, June 19.
