American Idol Finalist LaKisha Jones to Perform Free Concert at Dow Diamond
Dow has announced another celebrity will be a special guest during the historic Dow Live Earth Run for Water event to be held in Midland April 18, 2010. Flint native LaKisha Jones, a top four finalist in the 2007 season of American Idol, will perform live on the lawn of Dow Diamond after the 6k run/walk, 1 mile fun run.
Jones joins nine-time Olympic gold medalist Carl Lewis as the other special guest at the event. The two will help Dow raise awareness for the global water crisis, which affects millions of people all over the world each day. The run is presented by the Great Lakes Loons Pennant Race.
"Music is my ministry and if just one person can relate to this cause because of my attendance at the event, I feel like I have done my job," Jones said. She recently released her first solo album, "So Glad I'm Me."
From Argentina to Singapore, Dow is sponsoring Live Earth events all over the world on April 18 to raise money and awareness to help solve the global water crisis. The Dow Live Earth Run for Water is the largest solutions-based initiative in history aimed at solving the global water crisis.
A percentage of the proceeds from the Pennant Race will benefit non-profit causes related to the global water crisis. As in years past, the race also benefits local high school track and field programs. 6k is the average distance many women and children have to walk in developing nations for water.
In addition to Jones' participation with the run/walk, the Midland event will feature the Dow Live Earth Water Village water education activity, entertainment, family activities, local vendors, and refreshments provided by the Great Lakes Loons. Race registration is open now and available by going to www.loonspennantrace.com. The concert will take place at 3:30 p.m. on the lawn of Dow Diamond, 825 West Main St., Midland.
