Astros 4th of July Fireworks Celebration at Pioneer Park

The biggest and best fireworks celebration yet
May 20, 2011
July 4th Celebration
As is the tradition, Fourth of July at Pioneer Park will be a night to remember in Greene County. This year's program of events is better than ever and will be the place to be to celebrate America's Independence.

As this is Greene County's largest and only professional fireworks display, it's no wonder Fourth of July is consistently among the largest crowds annually at Pioneer Park. Last year, a record crowd of 3,753 came to the ballpark to watch the Astros take on the Kingsport Mets and to see the spectacular Independence Day fireworks show.

In addition to the fireworks, July 4th is Go Red For Women Night, creating awareness of heart disease as the number one killer of women nationally. Also, just like last year, the players will wear commemorative Stars & Stripes hats to benefit Welcome Back Veterans. There will be a silent auction for the game-worn hats and new Stars & Stripes hats may be purchased in the official Upper Deck Team Store.

Moreover, all of the regular Monday specials, including Kids Nite themed jerseys, Monday Mug Night, Kids Club, and kids run the bases will be ongoing. Nothing celebrates America like baseball, burgers, and fireworks, so come watch the Astros take on the Elizabethton Twins this Fourth of July!

Astros' Season Underway
Since the last newsletter, the Astros have started their 2011 season. While the team struggled out of the gate, they have won two of the last three as they head into a brief four game road trip to Danville and Elizabethton.

In the team's most recent home series, the Astros took two out of three from the Kingsport Mets. Greeneville almost swept the series, but lost the middle game in extra innings.

Notably, Astros first baseman Chase Davidson is second in the league in home runs this season with four and tied for fourth in RBIs with nine, all while batting .367 through his first nine professional games.

Also, starting pitcher Luis Ordosgoitti and reliever Matison Smith are among the league leaders in ERA at 1.54 and 2.16, respectively.

The team is beginning to come together and looks to continue its recent success at home on July 4th.

The Fourth of July game starts at 7pm, gates open at 5:30pm, and tickets are still available for the game and fireworks show. Call (423) 638-0411 or come by the Astros Administrative Office at Pioneer Park on the Tusculum College campus to reserve your seat today.

The ticket office will have special weekend hours in preparation for July 4th from 9am-4pm on Saturday and 1pm-4pm on Sunday. Reserved seats are $7 and General Admission tickets are $6. For groups of 20 or more, tickets are only $3 each. The following is a complete list of the special July 4th promotions at Pioneer Park.

Fireworks Spectacular
This year's fireworks celebration, presented by LandAir and Marsh Petroleum & Kwik-Shop Markets, promises to be one of the premier fireworks shows in Eastern Tennessee.

The professional fireworks display company, Pyro Shows, will light up the Greene County sky this Fourth of July. Pyro Shows has performed for the best and most demanding clients, from the National Park Service in Washington, DC at our Nation's Independence Day Celebration to the United Arab Emirates for their 25th Anniversary Celebration.

Also, consistent with years past, patriotic songs will be played over the PA system during the show. The game starts at 7pm and the fireworks will be directly following the game.

Wear Red for Go Red!
In addition to the spectacular fireworks show, this Fourth of July is Go Red For Women night, sponsored by Laughlin Memorial Hospital and Mountain States Health Alliance. Go Red for Women focuses on raising awareness that heart disease is the number one killer of women in the country.

Each year, the lives of nearly 500,000 women are lost to heart disease. The goal of Go Red For Women is to encourage not only awareness of the impact of heart disease on women, but to call women to action to save lives. The organization strives to educate women on the risks and give them the tools they need to lead a heart healthy lifestyle.

Go Red For Women set a goal in 2010 to reduce death and disability as a result of cardiovascular disease by 20% by 2020. All of Go Red For Women's revenues from local and national Go Red For Women activities go to support awareness, research, education and community programs to benefit women.

The Greeneville Astros encourage all fans to wear red to the game on July 4th in support of Go Red For Women. There will also be a Go Red t-shirt giveaway, courtesy of Laughlin Memorial Hospital and Mountain States Health Alliance, for those fans arriving early. For more information, you can visit their booth on the concourse.

Stars & Stripes Hats
For the second consecutive year, the Greeneville Astros will be one of the Minor League Baseball clubs that will be participating in the "Stars & Stripes" cap program throughout the upcoming Independence Day holiday weekend.

Last year, over seventy teams participated in this charitable program. Instead of the normal Greeneville Astros logo, these special commemorative caps have the American flag etched into the team's logo.

The participating clubs and Major League Baseball Properties Inc., which acts as Minor League Baseball's licensing agent, will donate all royalties from the sales of these caps to Welcome Back Veterans, a program which addresses the needs of returning American Veterans and their families.

With the backing of MLB and MiLB, Welcome Back Veterans has awarded more than $10 million in grants to 30 non-profit agencies across the country targeting veterans' greatest needs since 2008, including mental health and job training/placement.

In addition to being able to purchase new Stars & Stripes hats at The Upper Deck Store, the Greeneville Astros game-worn caps will be available for purchase through a silent auction at Pioneer Park during the game.

To participate in the silent auction for the game-worn caps, there will be a table in the concourse where you can submit your bid. So fans can come support our returning veterans and leave the ballpark with a one of a kind hat on July 4th.

Regular Monday Special Still Apply!
Also, because the Fourth of July is a Monday, all of the Monday specials will still apply! This includes Monday Mug Night, where fans can purchase a 22oz Greeneville Astros souvenir beer mug for $6 and get $4 refills on beer all night! Additionally, fans can bring the souvenir mug back to all remaining Monday home games to get $4 refills as well!

Like every Monday during the season, all kids 12 and under are invited down to the field to run the bases with the mascots immediately following the game. Tex and Tess have been working hard during the off-season, so see if your children can beat them around the bases.

Furthermore, Kids Club members eat for free every Monday this season! Kids Club membership is only $12 and includes a free ticket, t-shirt, and meal, and much more for every Monday Night game all season. For more information or to sign-up, please call (423) 638-0411.

Additionally, because it is a Monday, the players will wear special Kid's Nite Themed Jerseys. The special jerseys, sponsored by Takoma Regional Hospital, are an exciting new addition for the players and will be available for purchase via a silent auction after the final Monday home game of the year on August 29th.

As previously mentioned, July 4th is the most highly attended game of the season, so reserve your ticket today by visiting our website, www.greenevilleastros.com, coming by the ticket office at the ballpark, or by calling (423) 638-0411.
