Jackson, Tenn. - The Generals came up on the wrong end of another low-scoring affair Monday afternoon, losing 2-1 in the series finale to Jacksonville. Stewart Ijames homered and the bullpen threw four scoreless innings, but the Generals could not come back from an early deficit.
Jackson (3-2, 40-35) still won the series over Jacksonville, taking three of five over the Jumbo Shrimp. Going back to the first half, the Generals have won three-straight series. Overall, Jackson and Jacksonville split the ten games the teams will play in the 2017 regular season.

John Norwood provided the offense for Jacksonville (2-3, 32-43), driving in both Shrimp runs. In the first inning, he singled home Jeremias Pineda to put the visitors on top early. Two frames later, he drove in Cam Maron with an RBI single to make it 2-0. Norwood drove in five runs over the two Jacksonville wins this series.
That was all Taylor Clarke (6-4, 2.96), but he wound up saddled with the loss. The All-Star allowed two hits in five innings of work. He finished strong, needing only 14 pitches in his final two innings.
Behind Clarke, the bullpen was great for Jackson. Jared Miller struck out four over two scoreless innings. Gabe Speier and Miller Díaz each pitched a scoreless inning as well to keep the Generals in the game.
On the other side, Jackson was not able to figure out Matt Tomshaw. Tomshaw (7-4, 3.50) allowed just a run on five hits in six innings, earning the win. Jackson got on the board in the fourth inning on a solo shot to right field off the bat of Stewart Ijames. His fourth home run of the year was all Jackson could muster. The Generals stranded eight and went 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position. Jackson wound up scoring 14 runs over five games against the Shrimp.
The Generals managed to make things interesting in the night, putting two on with one out thanks to singles from Dawel Lugo and Victor Reyes. Daneil Schlereth (S, 2) settled down, retiring the next two batters to end the game and series.
After a day off Tuesday, the Generals begin a stretch of 20 games in as many days with a six-game set against the Tennessee Smokies in Sevierville. Brad Keller (4-5, 4.43) gets the ball in the opener Wednesday against right-hander Duane Underwood Jr. (6-4, 4.66).
