The Biloxi Shuckers (50-38) fell to the Jackson Generals (46-42) 6-1 on Tuesday night at MGM Park. Corey Ray belted his 13th home run of the season for the Shuckers in the loss.
The Generals jumped out to an early lead against RHP Trey Supak (L, 0-6) with runs in three of the first four innings. A two-out double in the first inning by Rudy Flores plated the first run of the game. Jackson added a tally in the third when, after a leadoff walk to Jay Gonzalez, Domingo Leyba tripled to make it 2-0. Two more Generals' runs added to the lead in the fourth inning, handing starter RHP Bo Takahashi (W, 1-3) the runs he needed to earn his first Double-A victory.
Takahashi shut down the Shuckers' offense by tying a Double-A high with ten strikeouts. The righty allowed just two hits over 6.2 innings of work. The first knock he allowed was a single to extend Troy Stokes Jr.'s on-base streak to 18 games. The second was Ray's opposite field home run in the sixth inning.
RHP Kevin Ginkel (H, 4) and LHP Daniel Gibson combined to lock down the game for Takahashi by hurling 2.1 scoreless frames in relief. Jackson added two runs in the ninth against RHP Josh Uhen to provide the 6-1 final.
With the Shuckers leading the series two games to one, the two sides are up and at it early with a 10:35 AM CT first pitch on Wednesday morning. After being named to the MLB All-Star Futures Game on Tuesday, RHP Luis Ortiz (1-4, 4.41) gets the start for Biloxi as he opposes RHP Ryan Atkinson (3-9, 4.85).
