Gray Earns Share of Brewers MiLB Player of the Month Award

ZEBULON - The Milwaukee Brewers recently announced that Carolina Mudcats outfielder Joe Gray Jr. and Wisconsin Timber Rattlers outfielder Korry Howell were both named the organization’s Minor League Players of the Month for the month of May.
Gray’s phenomenal run in May saw him hit .273/.360/.580 with a .940 OPS and Low-A East high seven home runs. He also totaled six doubles , 29 RBI, 24 hits, 20 runs scored, 12 walks and six stolen bases over 23 games played in May.
The Hattiesburg, MS native not only led Low-A East in homers, but he also paced the league in both total bases (51) and extra-base hits (13). He additionally finished the first month of the season second in Low-A East in RBI (29), seventh in slugging (.580), ninth in OPS (.940) and fifth in runs scored (20).
The 21-year-old Gray was additionally named the Low-A East Player of the Week by Minor League Baseball for final week in May. He then went on to win the same weekly honor the following week to start June.
During the final week of May, Gray went 10-for-23 and hit .435/.519/.957 with a 1.475 OPS, 10 runs, three doubles, three home runs, 17 RBI, four walks and two stolen bases over six games from May 24 through May 30. Gray additionally hit safely in nine straight games to close out the month of May, before starting June with hits in each of his first seven games. With that, Gray is currently in a 16-game hitting streak, running from 5/21/21 through 6/9/21.
Gray is the first Mudcats player to earn an organizational player of the month award this season. He is also one of two Mudcats to earn MiLB Player of the Week awards this season. Gray has earned the weekly honor twice, while pitcher - Creedmoor, NC native - Justin Bullock earned Carolina’s first weekly honor for the week of May 10 through May 16.
