Biloxi, Miss. - The Jackson Generals, the Double-A affiliate of Major League Baseball's Arizona Diamondbacks, won their seventeenth game in the month of July on Tuesday, beating the Biloxi Shuckers 5-3 at MGM Park.

The victory for Jackson (60-46) clinched the series win over the Shuckers (64-44), improving their record against the two First Half division champions (Biloxi and Montgomery) to 15-7.
Picking up right where he left off last week, Josh Green (1-1, 3.15 ERA) finished seven innings for the second start in a row, striking out a half dozen without allowing a walk. Green's efficient effort required only 77 pitches, and the right-hander held Biloxi scoreless in the second, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth frames, allowing an RBI double in the first inning and a two-run homer in the seventh. Biloxi didn't score on relievers West Tunnell or Miguel Aguilar (S, 2), dropping their third game in a row to the Generals.
After failing to score in the game's first three innings, Pavin Smith smoked a 3-2 pitch from Biloxi's Alec Bettinger (5-6, 3.62 ERA) over the fence in right to tie the game at 1-1 in the fourth. All went quietly forward until the sixth, when Daulton Varsho decided to go yard for a 2-1 Jackson lead. Three batters later, Drew Ellis went deep with a man aboard to put Jackson ahead 4-1, collecting his second homer of the series. Biloxi answered with a Jake Gatewood homer in the seventh to draw within 4-3, but the Generals tacked on a fifth run with a ninth-inning sacrifice fly from Ramon Hernandez, allowing Smith to score for a 5-3 lead.
With the win, Jackson is now 47-5 when scoring at least four runs, and they equaled their highest win count in a single month this season, with one game still left to play in July. Entering Wednesday, the Generals are 11-10 in series finales this season.
