Four Hits from Keshawn Ogans Powers Augusta to Lopsided Win
FREDERICKSBURG, VA: Saturday was another productive night at the ballpark for the Augusta GreenJakets (20-19) as they pounded the Fredericksburg Nationals (25-15) by a score of 12-2 to collect their tenth win of the road trip.
Augusta wasted no time grabbing the lead as they scored three runs in the first inning with a two-run single by David McCabe, followed by a Justin Janas sacrifice fly to score McCabe from third to make it 3-0 after the first.
The GreenJackets put another run on the board on a throwing error by Fredericksburg catcher, Maxwell Romero on a steal attempt as Stephen Paolini touched home to put Augusta in front 4-0.
The avalanche would continue in the third with Keshawn Ogans driving home David McCabe to push the lead to 5-0. Francisco Floyd was the author of two more runs scoring as he hammered a 3-0 pitch down the left field line to bring home Justin Janas and Ogans from first base to extend the advantage to 7-0. Stephen Paolini scored one more for an extra measure with an RBI single to right field, scoring Floyd to make it an 8-0 game.
The score stayed 8-0 until the sixth when the GreenJackets did more damage with an RBI single by Justin Janas, accompanied by a three-run homer by Keshawn Ogans for his first professional home run to give Augusta their largest lead at 12-0.
Fredericksburg broke the shutout in the seventh and added an additional run on a homer in the eighth but it wasn't nearly enough as the GreenJackets took down the Nationals with ease 12-2 to earn their second series win against them this season.
Darling Florentino (2-1) picked up the win in relief for Augusta with starting pitcher Andry Lara (2-7) taking the loss for the Nationals.
Every GreenJacket reached base at least once on Saturday night, led by Keshawn Ogans who produced a four-hit performance with four RBIs that included his first home run in professional baseball in the sixth. David McCabe and Francisco Floyd each had two hits and two RBIs on the night while Brandol Mezquita, Stephen Paolini, and Andrew Keck each registered two knocks as well.
Augusta will conclude their 12-game road trip on Sunday afternoon at Virginia Credit Union Stadium with Rainiery Rodriguez (2-2) getting the call for the GreenJackets versus Bryan Caceras (4-6) of the Nationals with first pitch slated for 1:35 p.m.
