In their series finale with the Mobile BayBears (19-30), the Biloxi Shuckers (28-22) scored twice in the late innings to come away with a 4-2 win on Sunday afternoon at Hank Aaron Stadium. Trent Grisham led the offense, going 4-for-5 with a triple, a home run, three RBI's and a run scored.
Grisham's first hit of the game put the Shuckers in front almost instantly. Luis Aviles Jr. bunted his way on base to start the game and Grisham followed by walloping a two-run homer over the right-field wall, his seventh of the year, to put Biloxi in front 2-0. The Brewers #30 prospect added a bunt single to start the third inning and just missed another home run when he tripled off the centerfield batters' eye with two outs in the fifth.
RHP Bowden Francis kept the BayBears off the board until the fifth inning, when Brandon Sandoval singled in a run to pull the BayBears within one at 2-1. The run scored by Sandoval ended a 27.1 innings scoreless streak from Shuckers' pitching. Francis didn't factor into the decision but turned in his second quality start in his last three outings, posting six innings and allowing just one run on four hits while walking four and striking out three.
Mobile pulled even in the bottom of the seventh inning on a sacrifice fly by Jahmai Jones off RHP Cody Ponce (W, 1-0). Biloxi recaptured the lead in the top of the eighth inning after Patrick Leonard doubled, moved to third on a wild pitch from RHP Dario Beltre (L, 1-2) and scored on a fielder's choice from Dillon Thomas. Grisham added the final run in the top of the ninth inning when he singled in C.J. Hinojosa from second.
Ponce came out for the top of the eighth and recorded the first two outs but issued a walk to Julian Leon and allowed a single to Brendon Sanger, putting men on the corners. RHP Luke Barker (S, 4) entered the game and struck out Connor Justus to keep the Shuckers ahead before working a clean 1-2-3 ninth inning.
Biloxi now enjoys an off day on Monday before starting a five-game series against the Tennessee Smokies on Tuesday night at 6:35 pm at MGM Park. The Shuckers are scheduled to send RHP Alec Bettinger (1-4, 5.59) to the mound while the Smokies have not named a starter.
