Fresno took an early 2-0 lead in the first from a two-run homer to left by Tyler White (2-for-5). His fifth of the season scored Tony Kemp who lead off the game with a single. The River Cats cut the Grizzlies lead to 2-1 in the bottom of the frame on a Mac Williamson single that scored Christian Arroyo (3-for-5).
Two more homers put the Grizzlies ahead 4-2. In the third, Derek Fisher knocked his team-leading 15th home run, a solo shot to center. Teoscar Hernández led off the fourth with a solo shot of his own to left center. It was his fifth long ball of the season.
Sacramento cut Fresno's lead to 4-2 in the fifth. Arroyo hit a RBI single that scored Wynton Bernard (3-for-5) who also singled to get on. In the eighth, the River Cats took their first lead of the game to make score 5-4. Tim Federowicz (2-for-4) smacked a three-run homer to left, his fourth of the season, scoring Ryder Jones (2-for-3) and Jae-Gyun Hwang who both walked to get on.
The Grizzlies regained the lead in the ninth to make the final score 6-5. Max Stassi walked to get on and scored on a White single. Preston Tucker then knocked a RBI single to bring home White to score the winning run. This marked White's second three-RBI game of the season; the first occurred on May 16 against Nashville.
Grizzlies starter Casey Coleman went a solid 5.2 IP, allowing just two runs on nine hits and a walk with four strikeouts. For the River Cats, starter Tyler Beede allowed four runs on eight hits and three walks with eight punch-outs through seven innings.
Fresno RHP Ralph Garza made his Triple-A debut in relief of Coleman in the sixth. He went two innings and allowed two runs on one hit and two walks with two strikeouts. It was reliever Kevin Comer (3-2) who got the win in 1.1 IP with three strikeouts. Sacramento reliever Kyle Crick (0-2) suffered the loss after giving up the winning run in the ninth.
The Highway 99 rivals will close out the four-game series at Raley Field on Thursday at 7:05 p.m. when the Grizzlies look to take three of four from the River Cats. Probable starters are RHP David Martinez (2-6, 5.60) for Fresno, against RHP Chris Stratton (1-3, 5.93) for Sacramento.
