The Fresno Grizzlies took the first game of the Saturday doubleheader from the Sacramento River Cats 6-2. It was a seven inning contest, the first doubleheader played by Fresno this season.
The two Sacramento runs came from one in the opening frame and one in the sixth inning. In the first, Jarrett Parker (walk) scored when Mac Williamson reached on an error to put them ahead 1-0. In the sixth Carlos Moncrief cut the Grizzlies' lead to 6-2 when he scored on a wild pitch.
Fresno's six runs came in a 10-batter fourth inning. Consecutive bases loaded walks to A.J. Reed and Reid Brignac scored Derek Fisher (double) and Juan Centeno (fielder's choice) to give the Grizzlies a 2-1 lead. Then, back-to-back triples from Jon Kemmer (three RBI) and Tony Kemp made the score 6-1 to eventually win the game, 6-2. It was Kemmer's second game with three or more RBI this season; he had five RBI on April 30 at Reno.
Grizzlies starting pitcher Casey Coleman (3-4) faced off against River Cats starter Roberto Gomez (1-4). Coleman earned the win through six innings, allowing two runs on four hits and four walks with one strikeout for his second quality start of the season. Gomez suffered the loss through three innings, allowing six runs on five hits and four walks with three strikeouts.
