Greensboro, N.C. (June 20, 2024) — The Hudson Valley Renegades fell in the final contest of the first half of the 2024 season to the Greensboro Grasshoppers 4-2 on Thursday night at First National Bank Field. By virtue of the win, Greensboro clinched a First Half Championship and a spot in the South Atlantic League Playoffs in 2024.

The Grasshoppers set the tone in the bottom of the first inning, jumping on Sebastian Keane for three runs. Termarr Johnson led off with a walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch before scoring on a Charles McAdoo double. McAdoo then stole third and came home to score on an errant throw by Rafael Flores. Later in the inning Nick Cimillo blasted a solo home run to extend the lead to 3-0.

Keane (5-5) settled in from there to retire the next eight Greensboro batters he faced. Cimillo touched him up for another solo home run in the fourth to grow the gap to 4-0. Overall, Keane allowed four runs on four hits while walking two and striking out seven across 5.1 innings.

Meanwhile Dominic Perachi (4-1) was dominant for the Grasshoppers, retiring the first 16 batters he faced to take a perfect game into the sixth inning before Beau Brewer broke it up with a clean single to center. The lefty finished with 6.0 shutout innings, the third straight Greensboro starter to throw six innings with no runs allowed in the series.

The Renegades got to the Grasshoppers’ bullpen in the top of the seventh when Garrett Martin touched up Scott Randall for a solo home run to cut the deficit to 4-1. The blast was the third of the season for Martin.

In the top of the eighth Hudson Valley edged closer when Josh Moylan led off with a double and scored on a Brewer groundout to make the score 4-2, but the Greensboro bullpen closed out the game with Brandan Bidois throwing a 1-2-3 ninth inning to pick up his fourth save.
