The Jupiter Hammerheads have announced Mike Jacobs will be the manager for the upcoming 2020 Florida State League season.
The 39-year-old played seven seasons in the Major Leagues for the Mets, Marlins, Royals, and Diamondbacks. The former first baseman was drafted in the 38th round of the 1999 MLB Draft by the Mets out of Grossmont College. The California native made his major league debut with the Mets in 2005, hitting a three-run pinch-hit home run in his first plate appearance. Jacobs was a career .253 hitter with 100 home runs and 312 RBIs in 569 career games.
After retiring following the 2016 season, Jacobs wasted no time beginning his managerial career for his former team, leading the Marlins' Short-Season affiliate Batavia Muckdogs. He spent the 2017 and 2018 seasons with the Muckdogs where he racked up a combined 66 wins. In 2019 he was promoted to Single-A Clinton where he led the LumberKings to the Midwest League Championship Series after a 78-61 record.
Jacobs will be coming into a Hammerheads squad that finished the 2019 season with 54 wins. Jupiter was in the top half of the Florida State League in team ERA and WHIP and will look to build on that with Jacobs at the helm.
The rest of the Hammerheads coaching staff will be announced at a future date.
