Perdue Stadium. The organization's 2012 first round pick finished the night 4-for-5 with two doubles, an RBI, and a run scored for Kannapolis (32-27).
Alec Hansen, the White Sox No. 10 Prospect according to MLB.com, continued to pile up strikeouts by fanning eight over 6.0 scoreless innings to earn the win. Hansen (6-3) scattered five hits and walked one while running his league-leading strikeout total to 82 in 66 and 2/3 innings this season.
Kannapolis struck in the second inning when Zach Remillard singled to cash Brandon Dulin for a 1-0 lead. Remillard finished 2-for-3 with two RBI. The Intimidators added a run in the fourth when Mitch Roman scored on a Seby Zavala grounder that resulted in a double play.
In the fifth, the Intimidators surged ahead with a 4-run frame. Jameson Fisher led off with a walks, and Hawkins doubled him home from first. Dulin added a 2-run double, and Remillard's sac-fly scored Dulin to cap the frame with a 6-0 advantage.
Mick VanVossen, who opened the season with Hagerstown and joined the White Sox from the Nationals organization on Friday, tossed a scoreless seventh inning, and Lane Hobbs worked the final two innings, allowing a run in the eighth.
Delmarva starter Matthias Dietz (0-5) took the loss, allowing six runs on nine hits while walking five and striking out three in 4.0 innings of work. Cody Dube spun 4.0 scoreless relief frames out of the Shorebirds' bullpen before Kory Groves tossed a scoreless ninth.
Hawkins, the White Sox top pick in the June 2012 First-Year Player Draft, opened the 2017 season with Class AA Birmingham before a pair of stints of the disabled list interrupted his season. After being placed on the Barons' DL on May 15, he was activated on June 6 and assigned to Kannapolis. In five games with the Intimidators, he is batting .292 (7-for-24) with four doubles.
Kannapolis continues this 4-game series on Sunday at 2:35 p.m. in Salisbury, Md., as LHP Bernardo Flores (5-4, 3.12 ERA) takes the mound for the Intimidators against Shorebirds RHP Jhon Peluffo (3-1, 2.72 ERA).
