Over the course of 12 starts, Hernandez has compiled a 5-3 record with a 5.18 ERA. In 57.1 innings, the righty has walked just 13 and struck out 37. Hernandez has pitched at least 5.0 innings in 10 of his 12 starts this season, and given up three runs or fewer in eight of his 12 appearances. He has the fourth-lowest walks per nine innings pitched ratio (2.04) in the Pioneer League and the sixth-lowest ERA (5.18) among starting pitchers.
This is Hernandez second All-Star honor of his career and the second this season. The 20-year-old was named to the Pioneer League Mid-Season All-Star Team after winning five of his first eight starts of the season. In the Pioneer League All-Star Game against the Northwest League on August 1, Hernandez pitched a scoreless inning.
A native of Venezuela, Hernandez was signed as an international free agent by the Milwaukee Brewers on July 2, 2013 at the age of 16. He pitched in the Dominican Summer League in 2014 and 2015 before being promoted the Arizona League in 2016. While with the Arizona Brewers, Hernandez led the team in ERA (4.29) and innings pitched (56.2).
Hernandez is the second Brewers pitcher to earn a full-season All-Star nod since the Pioneer League started announcing mid-season and full-season All-Stars in the 2016 season.
