CORPUS CHRISTI - Blair Henley and Angel Macuare pitched a gem Thursday night as Corpus Christi picked up its fourth consecutive win, a 2-1 triumph over Midland before 5, 019 fans at Whataburger Field.
Thanks to a team ERA of 3.34, the Hooks have won nine of their last 13.
Corpus Christi's runs came in the second thanks to a double by Colin Barber and a two-run blast from Chad Stevens. Stevens' 10th home run of the year left the bat at 108 miles per hour while traveling an estimated 404 feet to left.
Henley scattered one run, four hits, and one walk over five innings en route to his first Double-A win. The Texas Longhorn fanned four, throwing 43 of 69 pitches for strikes.
Macuare, activated from the injured list Thursday, went the rest of the way, striking out four against three hits without issuing a walk for his second save. The Venezuelan right-hander survived a lead-off double in the ninth by dispatching the next three batters.
Henley and Macuare were aided by a pair of double play balls, as the tandem stranded six. Midland mustered two base runners in the same frame only once.
