The Lynchburg Hillcats dropped game one of the series to the Augusta GreenJackets by a score of 9-1 on Tuesday evening.

The Hillcats were right in it until a seven run seventh inning slammed the door shut on any hope Lynchburg was holding onto. For Alonzo Richardson, the Hillcats starter, he picked up his second straight loss and dropped his record to 4-3.

Augusta started things off in the first inning as Will Verdung flew out on a sacrifice fly to drive home Isaiah Drake. The Hillcats would tie things up in the bottom of the fourth on a double from Manuel Mejias.

In the top of the sixth, Verdung would deliver again on an RBI single to left field. With Lynchburg trailing 2-1, the wheels began to fall off.

In the seventh inning, the GreenJackets would bat around, bringing ten men to the plate in the inning. A flurry of singles to open the inning would extend the lead in favor of Augusta before a two-run homer from Jeremy Celedonio would deliver the knockout blow.

The final few innings would go quietly for the Hillcats as they would drop the series opener.

Lynchburg and Augusta will battle again on Wednesday evening at 6:30 p.m. at Bank of the James Stadium.
