BOWIE, MD – Chayce McDermott, Nolan Hoffman, and Easton Lucas found themselves facing down history on Friday night as they each climbed the mound for the Bowie Baysox. The three pitchers combined to deliver the fifth nine-inning no hitter in team history, highlighting a 4-0 win over the Altoona Curve.
In front of a crowd of over 7,800 fans, McDermott saw two slightly shaky innings nearly derail the night early, as he walked two batters in the first inning, and again in the fourth inning. The free passes were the only blemishes on his day, however, as McDermott (W, 3-2) struck out four batters and grooved four pop outs.
In relief, Nolan Hoffman and Easton Lucas were perfect. Hoffman struck out five batters, while Lucas sat down three, including catching Henry Davis looking to complete the nine-inning wonder.
Offensively, Bowie got their best hit of the night from Billy Cook, as the second baseman delivered a monstrous two-run home run to left field. Bowie added two more runs in the fourth against Kyle Nicolas (L, 2-5) as the right hander threw a wild pitch for one run, and Tim Susnara grounded out to drive in another run.
The no-no is the 12th overall in franchise history, and it pushes the Baysox record up to 11-24 on the season. As they even the six-game series with Altoona, they will look to take a series lead on Saturday at Prince George’s Stadium, with the first pitch set for 6:35 p.m.
