AMARILLO – Cesar Salazar and Edwin Díaz clubbed 10th-inning home runs as the Hooks snapped a three-game slide with a 7-2 victory over the Sod Poodles Wednesday night at Hodgetown.
Stout pitching enabled the come-from-behind triumph as Adrian Chaidez, Jonathan Sprinkle and Derek West teamed to blank Amarillo over the final eight frames.
West, who struck out five over 2 2/3 innings for the win, stranded two in the eighth before leaving the bases loaded in the ninth.
In the 10th, Salazar rewarded West by clubbing an 0-2 pitch from Justin Lewis over the fence in right for a three-run home run. Salazar, who also went deep on Tuesday, is batting .417 in his last six games.
Following a walk to C.J. Stubbs, Díaz lined a homer over the fence in right for a 7-2 lead, his sixth round-tripper in 32 games with the Hooks.
West then struck out the side in a perfect frame to end the game.
Sod Poodles starter Bryce Jarvis retired the first 10, striking out seven. Joe Perez, who snapped the string with a fourth-inning single, leveled the score at 2 in the sixth with a two-out, two-run double to right-center. Perez is batting .370 in his last six assignments.
Chaidez held the home club to a Juan Centeno two-run home run over 5 1/3 innings. Sprinkle recorded six outs, including the last two in the sixth as he stranded an inherited runner at second to keep it a 2-2 affair.
