FRISCO – Rehabbing Astro Jake Odorizzi struck out six against three hits Wednesday night as the Hooks picked up their second shutout in a span of three games, a 5-0 decision over the RoughRiders at Riders Field.
The Hooks, who two-hit Frisco in a 4-2 win Tuesday, have won 10 of their last 12 games.
Of the three hits Odorizzi allowed, two failed to exit the infield. The 32-year-old veteran induced five ground ball outs, including a double play in the fourth.
Corpus Christi broke through against lefty Cody Bradford by sending eight men to bat in the second. The four-run frame blossomed behind four consecutive singles by Shay Whitcomb, Will Wagner, Alex McKenna and Cesar Salazar, which began the inning.
In relief of Odorizzi, Jose Bravo scattered four singles and one walk over 3 2/3 innings.
Bravo, who retired 15 of 16 batters faced last week vs. Amarillo, stands 2-0 with a 1.93 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and .167 batting average against in five June outings.
The Hooks netted their fifth run in the seventh thanks to a Jordan Brewer double and a sac fly off the bat of Luke Berryhill.
Jonathan Sprinkle stranded two by striking out the lone man he faced to finish the ballgame.
Cody Deason and the Hooks aim for win No. 4 in a row Thursday night. First pitch 7:05.
