CORPUS CHRISTI - Colin Barber hit two of six Hooks home runs Wednesday night, as Corpus Christi thumped Wichita, 10-4, at Whataburger Field.
Thanks to a new season-high for round-trippers as part of a 12-hit attack, the Hooks have won five run a row and six of their last seven.
Jacob Melton began the barrage in the second with a lead-off home run that landed in the right-field bullpen, his second dinger in three at-bats dating to Tuesday.
Melton then doubled in the wake of a seven pitch at-bat to begin the fourth. J.C. Correa followed with a two-run clout down the left-field line. Garrett Wolforth kept the frame alive with a two-out single before Will Wagner homered to right.
Wichita cut the CC lead to 5-4 thanks to a grand slam by Seth Gray in the fifth.
Barber provided the immediate answer with a lead-off laser that landed in the Goodwill Zone in left for his 10th homer of the season.
The Hooks then got four more in the sixth on back-to-back salvos by Zach Dezenzo and Barber. Dezenzo's three-run jack capitalized on singles by Wolforth and Zach Daniels. Barber's moonshot into the right-field pen rendered his second pro multi-homer game.
All of the sixth-inning damage came with two outs.
Blair Henley worked 4 2/3 before Peyton Plumlee, Cole McDonald, and Logan VanWey blanked the Wind Surge from the sixth through the ninth.
