CORPUS CHRISTI – The Hooks blasted four home runs, including two by Justin Dirden, while holding Springfield to a pair of hits in a resounding 10-0 win over the Cardinals Tuesday night at Whataburger Field.
Corpus Christi has won three in a row and four of the last six games.
Dirden, the reigning Texas League Player of the Week, has gone deep in each of his last three games after turning in his first multi-homer performance of the season.
With a double in the first and solo blasts in the fourth and sixth, Dirden is batting .541 with 17 extra-base hits and 19 RBIs in his last 15 games. He leads the league in average (.328) and RBIs (70) while ranking fifth in home runs (20).
C.J. Stubbs hit a two-run homer in the third and Bryan Arias opened the fourth with a long ball to left, giving the Hooks 11 home runs in their last three games. Arias, who cracked an RBI double in the second, reached base four times out of the nine-hole.
Alex McKenna plated three runs thanks to a pair of RBI singles and a sac fly.
Adrian Chaidez went five innings and retired 11 of the final 12 batters he faced to earn the victory. Jaime Melendez faced one over the minimum over three innings of work and Jojanse Torres struck out the side against one walk in the ninth.
The effort rendered Corpus Christi’s fifth shutout win of the year and the first since a 5-0 triumph June 29 vs. Frisco.
