FRISCO - Akeem Bostick worked six innings of three-hit baseball Sunday afternoon as Corpus Christi blanked Frisco 5-0 at Dr Pepper Ballpark.
The Hooks (21-22) have won six of their last nine games.
Bostick, who was activated from the disabled list earlier in the afternoon, needed just 77 pitches to earn his second win in his third Double-A assignment. The 22-year-old from Florence, SC, struck out three and walked one. Bostick last pitched May 5 at Midland.
David Ledbetter matched Bostick through the first three frames. J.D. Davis opened the fourth with a double to right field, and later scored on Bobby Boyd's sac fly.
Corpus Christi made it 3-0 in the fifth thanks to a bases-loaded single by Garrett Stubbs.
In the seventh, Stubbs notched an infield hit and advanced to second when lefty Adam Loewen threw wildly to first base. Davis cashed in with his second double of the day, plating Stubbs for a 4-0 edge.
The final Hooks tally came in the eighth. Singles by Antonio Nunez, Kristian Trompiz and Drew Ferguson filled the bases with Joe Filomeno on the hill. Jack Mayfield, playing for the first time since last Sunday at Oklahoma City, hit into a double play, pushing Nunez across the dish.
Ferguson went 2-for-2 with three walks, extending his hit streak to 18 games.
Sean Stutzman and Albert Minnis worked around three late errors to complete Corpus Christi's third shutout victory of the year. The Hooks have allowed no more than one run in six of their last nine games.
Kyle Smith (1-1, 3.71) gets the ball for Corpus Christi in Monday's 11 a.m. finale. Lefty Yohander Méndez (2-2, 3.47) pitches for Frisco (19-24). The game can be heard in the Coastal Bend on 1400 KUNO-AM.
