Spencer Horwitz part of trade with Cleveland Guardians

Horwitz finishes Bisons career one of the top offensive players in modern era

Thursday night the Toronto Blue Jays announced that they acquired 2B Andrés Giménez as part of a trade with the Cleveland Guardians in exchange for INF Spencer Horwitz. Horwitz appeared in 208 total games with the Buffalo Bisons from 2022 to 2024, making his Triple-A debut on July 6, 2022

Thursday night the Toronto Blue Jays announced that they acquired 2B Andrés Giménez as part of a trade with the Cleveland Guardians in exchange for INF Spencer Horwitz.

Horwitz appeared in 208 total games with the Buffalo Bisons from 2022 to 2024, making his Triple-A debut on July 6, 2022 against the Syracuse Mets. He recorded three hits, going three for four with a pair of doubles against the Mets at Sahlen Field, helping the young infielder finish with a .264 batting average in 44 games.

However, it was the 2023 season where Horwitz made his mark on the Bisons offensively and moved himself into one of the Blue Jays organization's top prospects. The 27-year-old was named Buffalo’s Stan Barron Most Valuable Player in 2023, finishing in the top 10 in several of the International League ‘s offensive categories.

His .450 on-base percentage was the highest in league history in nearly 40 years, while batting .337 which was good for fourth in the IL that season. Horwitz also made his Major League debut in 2023, collecting a hit against the Texas Rangers on June 18th.

He spent the majority of the 2024 season in Toronto, appearing in 97 games for the Blue Jays after being promoted from Buffalo on June 7th.

Horwitz finishes his Bisons career as the modern era career leader in on-base percentage with a .433 OBP, which is 17 points higher than the next closest. In 208 total Triple-A games, he hit .316 with 16 home runs and 122 RBIs. His .316 batting average ranks fourth in the modern era as well as the fourth best OPS of .904. His 66 doubles and 152 walks also rank seventh in their respective modern era categories as well.

The trade also included RHP Nick Sandlin acquired by Toronto, in exchange for OF Nick Mitchell.
