Hot Rods Celebrate All-Star MVP with Bat Throw Contest on Friday

Bowling Green, KY- The Bowling Green Hot Rods, Class-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays, are excited to announce an expansion to Friday night's promotional schedule. In addition to Princess and Pirate night along with Fireworks Friday presented by Norton Children's Hospital, fans will get the chance to act like Bowling Green's favorite 2019 Home Run Derby Winner, Chris Betts, and try their hand at emulating his celebration that went viral: a bat throw!

The first 250 fans through the gates will receive a Chris "Bat Throw" Betts t-shirt, but the fun doesn't stop there. Following Friday's game between the Hot Rods and Great Lakes Loons, fans will be able to try their hand at emulating Betts' bat throw on the field! The person who throws their bat the farthest will win an $500 flight voucher courtesy of Allegiant Airlines, the official airline of Minor League Baseball.
The contest comes on the heels of Betts' bat throws last Monday and Tuesday during the Midwest League All-Star festivities. The Hot Rods backstop won the 2019 MWL Home Run Derby on Monday and punctuated it by launching his bat into right field in celebration after hitting the derby-winning blast. Last Tuesday, the MWL All-Star Game was tied after nine innings and another derby ensued. The Eastern Division selected Betts as their representative, and he hit two homers in the 90-second round to win the game for the East while also garnering All-Star Game MVP honors.
