MIDLAND, TX - Fueled by four two-out RBIs and a strong start from Jack Cushing on Wednesday, the RockHounds engineered a 5-3 victory over the Hooks to start the second half, as well as a six-game series at Momentum Bank Ballpark.
All of Corpus Christi's offensive production came in the first. Drew Gilbert opened the game with a single and darted to third on a double by Zach Daniels down the right-field line. Joey Loperfido made it 1-0 Hooks on a groundout to the right side. One out later, Colin Barber belted an 0-1 pitch into the left-field bullpen for a 408-foot home run and a 3-0 lead.
Barber, who has eight home runs and 27 RBIs in 48 games this season, has gone deep in five of his last nine assignments.
Midland tied the game with a three-run second before plating additional markers in the fourth and sixth.
After allowing four hits to the first eight batters, Cushing rebounded to strikeout seven over 6 1/3 innings - both season-highs. The 26-year-old Double-A veteran retired 14 of the final 19 Hooks he faced.
Lefty Julio Robaina turned in a fine relief outing for CC, holding Midland to one run over four innings pitched.
