With injuries to several everyday players, the Cubs promoted the versatile 2015 first-round pick from the Pacific Coast League, where he was batting .298/.362/.615 with nine homers and 25 RBIs in 26 games.
With various ailments affecting infielders
"He was never overwhelmed being here today," Maddon told MLB.com. "He walked in, put his uniform on, went out there and kicked the bench and shook hands and hit a homer."
"You just have to take it in and enjoy it," Happ said before the game. "It's one of those situations where I might wake up tomorrow and not remember what happened. You just have to slow everything down and enjoy it and be in the moment."
MLB.com's No. 23 overall prospect, Happ sat out from April 29-May 7 with a bruised thumb, but he was coming off back-to-back three-hit games for Iowa and drove in five runs on April 27 and May 8. He boasts a 60-grade bat with 50 power and he's stolen 28 bases in 227 Minor League games.
