Hillsboro, OR (August 9th, 2022) – The Hops’ five-game win streak came to an end at the hands of the Spokane Indians on Tuesday night. Julio Carreras and Colin Simpson both had identical stat lines, as each had two hits, a double and three runs scored, while reaching base four times. Jordan Lawlar continued his hot hitting, as he doubled, tripled, stole two bases and scored two runs, despite the 10- 4 loss.

Avery Short started the game for Hillsboro, allowing five hits and four runs in the first inning. All five hits were singles, with two stolen bases in the frame. Julio Carreras brought home the first run of the game with a single and Colin Simpson followed with an RBI single of his own. Mateo Gil capped off the inning with a two-RBI single, extending the Indians’ advantage to 4-0.

Neyfy Castillo hit a 425-foot, two-run homer on a 1-0 pitch from Ryley Widell in the second, his 8th home run and second two-run blast in the last three games.

Marcos Tineo entered the game in the second after Short’s night was finished. He threw three shutout innings while striking out four. Hugh Fisher was the second reliever for the Hops and allowed a home run to the first batter he faced, Hunter Goodman. Goodman, hit his 25th home run and drove in RBI #79, giving Spokane a 5-2 lead.

Spokane would score a run in the sixth on a pair of errors by Hillsboro. The Hops got a run of their own in the bottom of the frame, as Jordan Lawlar hit his second High-A home run and was driven in by Deyvison De Los Santos who picked up RBI #80.

Ryley Widell had a great outing in his first start with Spokane, striking out eight over five innings.

The Indians scored two runs in the seventh, without recording a hit, as their lead would extend to 8-3.

Lawlar reached base for the third time, stole his second base and scored his second run of the game in the seventh, cutting the Spokane lead to 8-4 after eight.

Once again in the ninth, Carreras and Simpson made their mark, as Carreras singled, stole second and scored a run, with Simpson doubling and scoring a run.10-4 would be the final score in game one of the series.

Hillsboro (45-56) and Spokane (52-48) will play game two at Ron Tonkin field on Wednesday. The pre-game show will start at 6:50, with first pitch at 7:05 on Rip City Radio 620 and MiLB.tv
