DES MOINES – The Iowa Cubs have received a 2021 schedule from Major League Baseball with the slate expected to begin on April 6 and run through Sept. 19. The I-Cubs will start the season at Louisville before kicking off the home campaign on Tuesday, April 13. The calendar features 142 total games including 72 at Principal Park.

“We know that we will still need to be flexible with COVID-19, but having this schedule means that we are one step closer to getting Iowa Cubs baseball back to Principal Park,” said Iowa Cubs President and General Manager, Sam Bernabe. “It has been a long off-season and we are looking forward to seeing our fans again.”

Major League Baseball has limited team travel this season due to COVID-19. As a result, Iowa will see only Triple-A East Midwest Division opponents — Omaha (Kansas City), St. Paul (Minnesota), Indianapolis (Pittsburgh), Louisville (Cincinnati), Toledo (Detroit) and Columbus (Cleveland). This will allow the teams to travel primarily by bus and limit exposure to crowded airports and planes.

The matchups will feature six-game series running Tuesday-Sunday with each Monday scheduled for a league-wide off day. Iowa will face its former PCL division rival Omaha 42 times, and St. Paul 36 times to make up the majority of the slate. The I-Cubs see Indianapolis for 24 games, Toledo for 16, and Louisville and Columbus for 12 games each.

More information regarding game times, 2021 ticketing, and COVID-19 protocols will be released at a later date. For all the latest Iowa Cubs news, visit www.iowacubs.com or sign up for our email newsletter.
