Oklahoma City - The Iowa Cubs hit two three-run home runs on the way to a 7-2 win against the Oklahoma City Dodgers Monday night in a game shortened due to inclement weather at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
The game was called after the top of the sixth inning after a delay of 1 hour, 15 minutes as strong storms moved through the Oklahoma City metro area.
The Dodgers had a chance to take an early lead in the series opener between the teams as they began their final homestand of the 2019 season.
Oklahoma City (59-73) loaded the bases with one out in the second inning after
Iowa (71-62) took the lead in its next at-bat In the top of the third inning when pitcher Miller hit a three-run homer into the Dodgers' bullpen in left-center field for a 3-0 Iowa lead.
The Dodgers got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third inning.
But Iowa would tack on four more runs in the top of the fifth inning to break open the game.
The game then went into a delay with inclement weather imminent and was later called with strong storms in the area and heavy rain falling in Bricktown. A game is considered official after five innings of play are completed and Monday's game lasted 5 ½ innings.
Miller (3-4) picked up the win for Iowa, allowing two runs and seven hits over 5.0 innings with one walk and six strikeouts. Dodgers starting pitcher White (3-6) was charged with the loss, allowing three runs and three hits over 3.0 innings. He did not issue a walk and recorded five strikeouts.
The Dodgers have now lost a season-high seven straight games.
Oklahoma City and the I-Cubs continue their series at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
