IronPigs were limited to just three hits in the loss

(Allentown, PA) – The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (57-46) saw their five-game winning streak come to an end on Friday evening as the Syracuse Mets (46-57) won 6-3. The IronPigs recorded just three hits and saw Bailey Falter (4-1) receive his first loss of the season.

Daniel Palka put Syracuse on the scoreboard against Falter in the top of the first inning as he hit his 18th home run of the season. The Mets would take a 1-0 lead due to the home run then extend their lead to 4-0 in the top of the third inning. Nick Plummer hit an RBI double that scored Deven Marrero and Francisco Alvarez hit a two-run home run that scored he and Plummer. The home run was Alvarez’s fifth of the season.

Lehigh Valley was able to get a run against Connor Grey (5-5) in the bottom of the fifth inning as Rafael Marchan hit an RBI single that scored Josh Ockimey. The run cut Syracuse’s lead to 4-1. It would be the only run Grey would allow through six innings pitched. Jorge Bonifacio hit his 11th home run of the season against Alex Claudio to cut Syracuse’s lead to 4-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning.

The Mets scored two runs against Mark Appel in the top of the eighth inning to take a 6-2 lead. Travis Blankenhorn hit an RBI single that scored Alvarez and Nick Dini hit an RBI single that scored Palka. The IronPigs were able to get a run against Michel Otanez in the bottom of the ninth inning as Bonifacio scored on a bases-loaded walk by Rafael Marchan.

Rob Zastrynzny earned his first save of the season by striking out Will Toffey to end the game.

The IronPigs and Mets continue their series on Saturday evening at Coca-Cola Park. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
