Pigs tried to rally but held off by Rochester
(Allentown, PA) – The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (7-9) lost to the Rochester Red Wings (9-7) on Friday evening by a score of 4-3.
Rochester took a 1-0 lead against James Marvel (0-3) in the top of the first inning as Josh Palacios hit an RBI single that scored Luis Garcia. The Red Wings extended their lead to 4-0 in the top of the second inning as Chris Herrmann hit a two-run double that scored Nick Banks and Donovan Casey. The third run of the inning took place on a throwing error by Donny Sands.
Lehigh Valley scored two runs against Jackson Tetreault in the bottom of the third inning to cut Rochester’s lead to 4-2. Sands hit an RBI single that scored Nick Maton and on the same play, Sands scored on a throwing error by catcher Herrmann.
Marvel allowed nine hits in his four-inning outing but did not issue a walk and recorded one strikeout. Jakob Hernandez and Tyler Cyr each followed with a scoreless inning of relief.
Drew Maggi put the IronPigs within one run as he hit an RBI single against Reed Garrett (1-1) in the bottom of the sixth inning. Yairo Munoz scored on the play.
Alberto Baldonado earned his second save of the season by pitching a scoreless bottom of the ninth inning.
The IronPigs and Red Wings play at Coca-Cola Park on Saturday evening. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
