Each of the LumberKings four all-stars will be making their first All-Star game appearances of their professional careers.
Larsen, 23, has been a presence in the middle of the lineup all season for the LumberKings serving as the everyday right fielder and cleanup hitter. Coming into Wednesdays action he is tied for the Seattle Mariners organizational lead for RBI with 38. Larsen began the season by reaching base safely in his first 17 games, a stretch which included a power surge at the plate. His first two hits of the season went for home runs and his seven on the season are tied for the second most on the team. Larsen has punished pitching this season with the bases loaded batting .556 with a home run and 14 RBI. The Seattle Mariners signed Larsen as an undrafted free agent on June 19, 2017 out of UC San Diego.
Costello, 21, has been the everyday first basemen for Clinton this season while seeing some time at third base. One of the power bats for the LumberKings this season, Costello leads the team in home runs with eight, tied for fifth most in the league, and is tied with Larsen for the Mariners organization lead in RBI with 38. The power has not been limited to home runs for Costello, his 15 doubles on the season have him tied for fourth in the league and his 24 extra base hits, thus far, have him tied for third in the league. The Mariners selected Costello in the 31st round of the 2017 MLB Draft out of Central Connecticut State University.
Starting pitcher Inman, 22, earns his first professional All-Star selection with an impressive five outing stretch in which he has gone 2-0 with a 2.36 ERA. Overall on the season, coming into his start on Wednesday night, the righty is 3-2 with a 3.99 ERA. His appearance in the 54th Midwest League All-Star Game will come in relief just as his first outing as a LumberKing had come in relief back in 2017. The Mariners selected Inman in the 15th round of the 2015 MLB Draft out of High School in his native Georgia where he helped to lead his team to a state championship.
Kober, 23, has been one of the most called upon relievers for the Lumberkings this season. Over his 15 outings, thus far, he has received three decisions, two wins and a save. He owns a 2-0 record with an ERA of 3.04. The ERA of Kober is the third lowest on the team, among LumberKings relievers who qualify. He has been closing out the first half with an impressive run, not having allowed an earned run since May 25 in Cedar Rapids. Twice this season he has turned in scoreless inning streaks of six innings or more each span lasting over three outings or more. The Mariners selected him in the 27th round of the 2017 MLB Draft out of McNeese State University in his native state of Louisiana.
The first half of the season will end for the LumberKings on June 17 in Beloit with the All-Star Break to begin the following day. On Tuesday, June 19th the 54th Midwest League All-Star Game will be hosted by the Lansing Lugnuts at Cooley Law School Stadium.
