MiLB named Emeralds outfielder Jairo Pomares Northwest League Player of the Week for his performance against the Spokane Indians during the week of August 7th.

The sixth-ranked Giants prospect had two home runs and six RBIs on a .480 batting average. The outfielder opened the series with a home run on a four-hit day, which led Eugene to an 11-3 victory over Spokane. The outfielder ended the series with a three-hit day, including a two-run bomb to center field, as the Emeralds tied the series at three games apiece.

Last week's performance was a return to form for the power-hitting Pomares, who is in his first full season with the Emeralds. As of August 10th, he is fifth on the team with 12 home runs, while his 44 RBIs rank fourth, and his 70 hits have him tied for second.

Pomares was signed as an international free agent out of Sancti Spiritus, Cuba, in 2018 and has quickly ascended the Giants prospect rankings with his exceptional bat speed and consistently high exit velocities. He was called up to Eugene in the latter half of the 2021 season and was an integral piece of the Emeralds' 2021 High-A West Championship, going for six home runs and 15 RBIs in 26 games with the team.

Pomares' electric week in Spokane provided a spark for the Emeralds, and he hopes to keep it going as Eugene and Pomares go for back-to-back league championships.
