Jamison Hill Sets Franchise Record with 13 K's

Eugene, OR (July 29, 2022) – Jamison Hill had a career night and cemented his name in the Hillsboro Hops record book, striking out 13 hitters, the most ever by a Hop pitcher. Hill also recorded 10 consecutive outs via the strikeout and tied the Northwest League record by striking out nine consecutive hitters. He left the game with a no-hitter intact, but Eugene would rally behind a three-run home run by Casey Schmitt to win their third game of the series by a score of 5-4.

Ryan Bliss started the game off with a double off Keaton Winn, his 13th of the season. A.J. Vukovich continued his solid series picking up his fourth RBI of the week and 43rd of the campaign to bring home Bliss in the first.

Jamison Hill had command issues in the first inning, throwing 23 pitches and issuing two walks. Eugene took advantage of the free passes, with Pat Bailey recording a sacrifice fly to tie the game at 1-1.

After a shaky first inning, Hill quickly found his groove. He struck out the side in the next three innings and recorded 13 of the next 15 outs on the strikeout.

Eugene starter, Keaton Winn, was very solid as well, only allowing the earned run in the first inning and striking out 10 over six innings.

Hill had 12 strikeouts entering the sixth inning, one punchout away from setting the single-game record. Luis Matos popped out to the first baseman Castillo, bringing Casey Schmitt to the dish. Schmitt worked the count to 2-2, but Hill would win the battle. Schmitt swung and missed at a high fastball and Jamison Hill became the first Hop to ever strikeout 13 in a game. Hill exited the game with a no-hitter after throwing 99 pitches.

Caleb Roberts gave the Hops the lead in the seventh with his 4th RBI of the series, a sac fly that scored Vukovich. Neyfy Castillo added to the lead with his second home run in three games, a laser solo shot to center field.

Eugene answered in the bottom half of the inning with a single run brought home on a sac fly by Riley Mahan, making the score 3-2 Hillsboro.

For the second inning in a row, both teams scored in the eighth. Ramses Malave swung at the first pitch he saw from Brooks Crawford, sending it 424-feet for his second home run in a Hops uniform. ‘

Eugene got two runners on in the eighth to bring up Schmitt with one out. Schmitt, crushed the 2-1 pitch from Junior Mieses over the left field fence for a go-ahead three-run home run, giving Eugene a 5-4 lead. Schmitt is now tied for the league lead with 17 home runs.

A.J. Vukovich hit a screaming line drive to center field in the ninth, but Luis Matos robbed him of a base hit with a sliding catch in center field. Juan Sanchez retired the next two hitters in order and for the third time this series, Eugene won by a final score of 5-4.

The Hops as a team struck out 17 Emeralds for the second straight game.

Hillsboro (40-52) and Eugene (55-26) will play game five on Saturday at PK Park. First pitch is at 5:05, with the pre-game show at 4:50 on Rip City Radio 620.
