FRISCO, Texas (July 16, 2022) – Despite holding a 2-1 lead into the fifth inning, the Frisco RoughRiders fell to the Midland RockHounds at Riders Field on Saturday, 14-2. Frisco right fielder Kellen Strahm knocked his fifth home run of the year in the Saturday loss to extend his on-base streak to 31 games. Midland plated 13 runs between the fifth through the seventh innings for the difference.
Frisco starter Avery Weems (1-5) only allowed a solo home run through four innings and struck out two batters to begin the top of the fifth before allowing another solo homer. The next three RockHounds hitters would reach to set up a grand slam for catcher Kyle McCann to give Midland a 6-2 lead.
Midland lefty starter David Leal (3-4) struck out four batters and walked none in his seven-inning start, giving up just two runs on five hits.
Frisco reliever Marc Church led the bullpen effort with four strikeouts in the final two innings. Since his promotion to Frisco on June 30th, Church has yet to allow an earned run behind six strikeouts and one walk.
Aside Strahm’s 2-for-4 night, designated hitter Sandro Fabian finished 3-for-4 with an RBI for his second consecutive three-hit game.
After Midland tallied their first run in the top of the second inning, Fabian evened Saturday’s score to 1-1 with a two-out single to plate Strahm from second in the bottom of the second. The RoughRiders took their only lead on Strahm’s home run in the bottom of the fourth to hold a 2-1 advantage.
Midland erased the deficit with five runs in the top of the fifth, and four in each of the seventh and eighth innings to end Saturday’s action, 14-2.
The series continues Sunday evening with a 6:05 p.m. first pitch time, as Midland LHP Ty Damron makes his first appearance of the season. Frisco’s starting pitcher is still yet to be determined.

The Frisco RoughRiders are the Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers. The team was founded in 2003 and has finished first among all Double-A franchises in attendance for 15 consecutive seasons (2005-2019). In August 2014, the RoughRiders were purchased by an ownership group led by Chuck Greenberg. These enhancements earned the Riders and the City of Frisco Ballpark Digest's prestigious "Best Ballpark Renovation" award for two consecutive years (2015 and 2016). More than 170 former RoughRiders players have gone on to play Major League Baseball. For more information on the Frisco RoughRiders, please visit RidersBaseball.com or contact [email protected].
