Erie fell in extras to Somerset, 5-4, despite heroics from Jace Jung.

Justice Bigbie started the scoring against Somerset starter Drew Thorpe with a one-out, solo home run in the first inning.

Brant Hurter surrendered the lead by allowing a pair of unearned runs in the second. Spencer Jones led off the frame by reaching on Danny Serretti’s error. With one out, Hurter walked consecutive hitters to load the bases. Max Burt hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game. Eduardo Torrealba followed with an RBI single to give Somerset a 2-1 lead.

The game remained 2-1 until the ninth inning. For the second straight night, a clutch Erie homer forced extras. Tonight, Jace Jung tied the game on a solo shot against Alex Mauricio.

In the 10th, Jung played hero again. He hit a two-run home run against Danny Watson to give Erie a 4-2 lead. It was Jung’s second consecutive game with two home runs.

After Tim Naughton and Tyler Mattison each threw two scoreless innings, Layne Henderson was tasked with the save opportunity in the 10th. With the free runner at third after a wild pitch, Henderson walked his first batter. Ben Rice followed with an RBI single to cut it to 4-3. Agustin Ruiz tied the game with a single as well. After Jones loaded the bases on a single of his own, T.J. Rumfield drove home the winning run with a base hit to center.

Henderson (3-1) takes the loss after failing to retire any of the five batters he faces. Watson (4-0) gets the win.

The series continues on Thursday at 6:35 p.m.
