Jungmann, Orf Receive Sky Sox MVP Honors

The Colorado Springs Sky Sox have announced that RHP Taylor Jungmann has been named the Sky Sox Pitcher of the Year, while infielder Nate Orf has been named the Sky Sox Player of the Year for the 2017 season.

A two-time Sky Sox Pitcher of the Month recipient in 2017, Jungmann made the most of his third season in a Sox uniform. A top pitching prospect since being drafted by the Brewers as the 12^th overall selection of the 2011 draft, the University of Texas product ended the 2017 season as the team's win leader with nine.
After going 1-3 with a 9.87 ERA in eight starts for the Sox in 2016, the right-hander spent much of the first two months of the 2017 season in Double-A Biloxi before receiving a promotion to Triple-A on May 27. Jungmann finished the season with a 9-2 record in 17 games (15 starts) with a 2.59 ERA, the sixth-best earned run average in Sky Sox team history (Min. 50 IP).
The June and August Sky Sox Pitcher of the Year honoree went 2-1 in five August starts, including a 4-0 shutout of the Round Rock Express on August 31 in his final regular season start. His 1.50 earned run average during the month was the lowest among the Sky Sox starting rotation.
Jungmann allowed three earned runs or less in 12 starts in 2017 and threw quality starts in his final five outings of the regular season. In game one of the postseason, Jungmann combined with Tyler Cravy to allow just four hits to the Memphis Redbirds, the fewest allowed by the Sky Sox in a postseason game in team history.
Playing in 125 games in 2017 for the Sky Sox, Orf established himself as a reliable utility player, spending time at second base (72g), right field (28g), third base (13g) and left field (1g). Orf finished his season with a .320 average (139-for-434) with 32 doubles, 11 triples, nine home runs and 65 RBI during the regular season.
Orf finished second in the PCL in runs scored with 103-good for the fourth-most runs scored by a Sox player in team history. Orf also made some history of his own on August 19 against Oklahoma City, hitting for the team's first cycle since Dexter Fowler's in 2010.
After sharing July Sky Sox Player of the Month honors with teammate Kyle Wren, Orf earned the August monthly honor by leading the Sox with a .366 average in 26 games played in August. His 34 hits in the season's final full month led the Sky Sox, as did his 11 doubles, three triples and four home runs. Orf drove in 11 runs in August, good for third on the team behind Ivan De Jesus (16) and Brett Phillips (12).
Orf hit just .205 during the month of April, but turned things around with a .326 average during the month of May. During the eight-game road trip to El Paso and Albuquerque, the righty recorded 13 hits, including a trio of three-hit games against the Chihuahuas and Isotopes. Since May, Orf recorded batting averages of at least .300 in each remaining month and saw his on-base and slugging percentages gradually increase the rest of the season. Orf had hit one home run from April to June, but he found his power swing with eight home runs after the calendar turned to July.
