The Tampa Bay Rays on Monday evening announced several players have been re-assigned to minor league camp, with top Rays prospect Junior Caminero among those listed along with nine members of the 2023 Durham Bulls squad.
Caminero, rated by MLB Pipeline as the fourth-best prospect in baseball, played the majority of last year with Double-A Montgomery before being promoted to Tampa Bay for his final seven games. Across 117 contests between Montgomery and Bowling Green (A+), Caminero hit .324 (149-460), adding 85 runs, 18 doubles, six triples, 31 homers and 94 RBI en route to being named Minor League Baseball's Breakout Player of the Year and Rays MiLB Player of the Year.
Nine Bulls players were also re-assigned to minor league camp on Monday, including right-handed pitcher Enmanuel Mejia, catcher Logan Driscoll, infielders Tanner Murray, Austin Shenton, and Carson Williams, infielder/outfielder Greg Jones, and outfielders Ruben Cardenas, Niko Hulsizer, and Kameron Misner.
As a result of these moves, Tampa Bay's Spring Training roster now stands at 58, including two on the 60-day Injured List in pitchers Shane McClanahan and Drew Rasmussen. Durham's preliminary roster will likely be announced the week of March 25.
The Bulls begin the 2024 regular season slate with a three-game road set against the Norfolk Tides before starting a six-game homestand against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, the Triple-A affiliate of the Miami Marlins, on Tuesday, April 2. First pitch at Durham Bulls Athletic Park that evening is set for 6:35pm.
