KANNAPOLIS, N.C. - In the final game of the mid-week series with Charleston, the Intimidators failed to find their stride at the plate, falling to the RiverDogs 4-0.
Charleston struck first on a sacrifice fly from Wilkerman Garcia, driving in Frederick Cuevas to give the RiverDogs a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning.
One inning later, a Nelson Gomez line drive scored Canaan Smith from second base, quickly doubling the Charleston lead, 2-0.
The Intimidators failed to get the bats going, getting shut out in the first seven frames by Charleston starter RHP Daniel Bies. Bies (W, 2-1) struck out nine batters over his seven innings of work, providing a quality start for the RiverDogs. Dalton Higgins followed Bies, who finished the final two innings of work with three strikeouts and giving up just one hit, helping the RiverDogs find more success on the mound.
The lone bright spots at the plate for Kannapolis were Alex Destino, who laced a double in the bottom of the third, and Ian Dawkins, who had a ground ball single into left field in the bottom of the ninth.
RHP Kade McClure (L, 1-1) threw 5.1 innings, giving up eight hits, three earned runs, and striking out five. Wilber Perez and LHP Bennett Sousa followed McClure on the bump. Perez struck out two and gave up one hit in 1.2 innings, while Sousa struck out one, giving up one earned run on four hits, going two innings to close out the work on the hill for Kannapolis.
Kannapolis starts a three-game series Friday night with the Hickory Crawdads. First pitch is slated for 7:00 p.m. with RHP Jonathan Stiever taking the rubber for the Intimidators. Hickory will send                    to the mound LHP Grant Wolfram. The Intimidators will sport their Piedmont Boll Weevils threads on Friday night in tribute to their identity from 1996-2000.
