Kingery Named Top Second Base Prospect

CLEARWATER, Fla. -- Former Thresher Scott Kingery headlines the list of the best second base prospects in Minor League Baseball, as rated by MLB Pipeline.
Kingery finds himself on the verge of the big leagues after a powerful 2017 campaign, in which the toolsy infielder smashed a career-high 26 home runs combined between the Reading Fightin Phils and Lehigh Valley IronPigs.
MLB Pipeline also ranks Kingery as the top baserunner among second base prospects, after the 23-year-old swiped 29 bases last season between Double-A and Triple-A. In three professional seasons, Kingery has stolen 70 bases in 83 attempts, a success rate of 84%.
Defensively, Kingery earned a Minor League Gold Glove award after posting the highest fielding percentage (.989) among qualifying second basemen in 2017.
The Phillies made Kingery their second round selection in 2015 out of the University of Arizona. He spent the majority of the 2016 season in a Threshers uniform, when he was named a Florida State League midseason and post-season All Star after batting .293 with 29 doubles, three homers, and 26 stolen bases in 94 games.
Kingery received a non-roster invitation to Spring Training in 2017, and impressed with his defensive play in 10 games for the Phillies. He opened the season in Double-A Reading and earned Eastern League Player of the Month honors in May, and was batting .313 with 18 home runs at the time of his promotion to Lehigh Valley on July 13.
With the IronPigs, Kingery continued to make an impact on all sides with a .294 average, eight homers, and 10 stolen bases in 63 games.
Kingery has been invited to Phillies Spring Training as a non-roster player for the second straight year and, although likely to open the season in Lehigh Valley, is expected to make his Major League debut this summer.
