Knights Complete Sweep Of Pigs, Fall 5-4 In Finale

Danny Hayes hit two home runs, including a go-ahead solo home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Charlotte Knights (53-73) a 5-4 victory over the IronPigs (70-57) Sunday night at BB&T Ballpark.

With two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning, Pigs reliever Pat Venditte surrendered a solo home run to Hayes to give the Knights a 5-4 lead.
The Pigs tied the game at 4 in the top of the seventh inning, as Scott Kingery launched a solo home run to left field. The home run for Kingery was his eighth as an IronPig, and his 26^th homer in the minor leagues this season.
Kingery extended his hitting streak to 18 games, tying him for the second longest hitting streak in team history.
The Pigs again squandered an early lead after taking a 1-0 advantage in the first inning of a Carlos Tocci RBI ground out that scored Scott Kingery who singled to lead off the game.
Charlotte's Rob Brantly then gave the Knights a 2-1 lead with a two-run double in the bottom of the third inning, scoring Jacob May and Cody Asche as Rymer Liriano was thrown out at home.
J.P. Crawford would strike for a two-run single in the top of the fifth to give the Pigs a 3-2 lead, as Logan Moore and Kingery both scored giving the pigs the lead.
The Knights then tied the game at 3 as Brantly was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the bottom of the fifth.
Hayes would hit his first home run in the sixth to give Charlotte a 4-3 lead at the time.
For the Pigs, they have now lost 14 of their last 17 games.
The Pigs return home for a four-game series against the Syracuse Chiefs Monday night at Coca-Cola Park. The Pigs will send right-hander Tom Eshelman (8-3, 2.58), and the Chiefs will send right-hander Erick Fedde (1-2, 4.82). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
