Kyle Lloyd made history before a sellout crowd of 6,364 Saturday night by firing the club's first no-hitter in the Wolff era as San Antonio blanked Frisco 2-0.
Looking to build another win streak, the Missions had the right man on the hill in Lloyd, who was 1-0 with a 1.42 ERA through his first two May starts.
The right-hander came out dealing before the packed Wolff Stadium crowd, allowing just one walk over the first two innings.
San Antonio scored the only run it would need in the bottom of the second off righty Collin Wiles (3-1) when Ty France recorded his first Double-A RBI with a single to left that drove home Franmil Reyes.
Lloyd kept pounding the strike zone, setting the 'Riders down in order in both the third and the fourth. In the fifth, a strikeout/wild pitch was the only thing that delayed another perfect inning for the Sacramento, CA native.
The Missions tacked on an insurance run for Lloyd in the sixth when Nick Torres drilled his third homer of the season.
The rest of the game belonged to Lloyd, who set Frisco down in order over each of the final four innings. In the ninth, Lloyd got Michael De Leon to ground out to short to start the frame. Next up was Matt Lipka, who flew out to Nick Schulz in center. Finally, Lloyd (4-3) became the first Mission pitcher to toss a no-hitter at The Wolff when he got Scott Heineman to fly out to Reyes in right.
The Missions stormed the mound to celebrate with Lloyd, who needed just 94 pitches (68 of them strikes) to complete his no-no bid. It was the first solo no-hitter by a San Antonio hurler since Rick Goulding in 1979 (July 4 vs. Amarillo). It was the first no-no of any kind for the club since July 30, 2014 when James Needy and two relievers no-hit Corpus Christi at Whataburger Field.
San Antonio (20-15) concludes its four-game set with Frisco (15-20) Sunday. First pitch on Mother's Day is scheduled for 2:05 PM. Bryan Rodriguez will take the ball for the Missions, while the 'Riders counter with fellow righty Connor Sadzeck (2-2, 5.08).
