The Tampa Bay Rays on Monday announced that Durham Bulls infielder Kyle Manzardo has been acquired by the Cleveland Guardians organization in exchanged for right-handed pitcher Aaron Civale.
In 73 games with the Bulls this season, the 23-year-old accumulated a .238 average (63-265), adding 33 runs, 19 doubles, one triple, 11 homers and 38 RBI, along with 42 walks along with a .342 on-base percentage. He was invited to represent the Tampa Bay Rays in the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game this year at T-Mobile Park in Seattle, though he was not able to participate due to injury.
In 179 career contests, Manzardo owns a .291 mark (184-632), adding 114 runs, 50 doubles, two triples, 35 homers and 127 RBI. He was selected by Tampa Bay in the second round of the 2021 MLB Draft out of Washington State University.
In exchange, the Rays received 28-year-old right-hander Aaron Civale, who has accumulated a 5-2 record and 2.34 ERA (77.0 IP) along with a 1.04 WHIP and .207 batting average against.
Major League Baseball's trade deadline is on Tuesday, August 1 at 6:00pm ET.
The Bulls begin a six-game road series on Tuesday evening versus the Nashville Sounds, the Triple-A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers, with first pitch scheduled for 7:35pm.
