In Game 2 of Thursday's doubleheader (rained out on Wednesday), Salt Lake (17-11) broke a scoreless tie in the third, scoring three times, punctuated by a two-run homer by Chris Carter, the 10th of the season for the former Houston Astro.
In a spot start, Bees' starter Dylan Unsworth went just three innings, and did not allow a run on four hits and two walks (two strikeouts).
Still leading 3-0 in the fourth, David Fletcher (2-for-3), who has a 16-game hit streak, tripled with two out to drive in a run and make it 4-0 Salt Lake.
Fresno (18-10) cut the lead in half in the fifth inning, scoring twice. Kyle Tucker (2-for-4) singled and stole second base, later scoring on an AJ Reed triple off the wall in center. Reed trotted home a batter later on a RBI single to center by J.D. Davis (2-for-2), his third RBI of the day in the twin bill. The damage in the fifth came off former Grizz RHP Jordan Jankowski (2015-17).
Grizzlies' starter Mike Hauschild (2-3) tossed four innings in the seven-inning contest, allowing four (earned) runs on seven hits, with a walk and four strikeouts. Despite allowing four hits and two (earned) runs (2 BB, 0 K), Jankowski (1-0) came away with the win, as Fresno could add no more runs in the late innings. Ian Krol picked up his fourth save.
Tony Kemp led off the game with a base hit, extending his current club-high hit streak to 10 games. It's Kemp's second 10-game hit streak of the season (April 7-17), and he's hit safely in 23 of the 27 games he's played (.324).
The Grizzlies return home for a four-game series beginning Friday, their first meeting of the season with the rival Sacramento River Cats. Friday starters will be LHP Kent Emanuel (2-1, 1.66) for Fresno, opposite RHP Jose Flores (0-1, 4.24) for the visitors. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
