Hops threw their ace Luis Frias and the flamethrower did not disappoint. He recorded nine strike outs out over five innings while not allowing a walk. Frias dominated outside of the two runs he gave up in the top of the second inning, topping out at 96 miles per hour. The Hops were down 2-0 going into bottom of the third when Barrosa tied the game with a two-run single.
The Emeralds took the lead in the top of the sixth before Trevor McKenna and Yaramil Hiraldo pitched the Hops out of trouble, only allowing one run after McKenna loaded the bases with nobody out. Hiraldo would go on to pitch a scoreless seventh inning as well. Lights out Hops relief pitching would continue in the later innings of the game. Franklyn Soriano pitched two scoreless frames while only allowing one hit.
The Hops had their chances to bury the Ems throughout the game, but poor base running and a questionable call kept them chasing. That would change in the bottom of the ninth when Ricky Martinez drove in Jesus Marriaga with a double. The magic would continue in the bottom of the tenth inning when Barrosa drove in his third run of the contest, ending the game and clinching the series for the Hops.
Out of relief, Jose Cuas recorded his second win of the season, pitching a scoreless tenth inning.
Hillsboro (10-6) will play Eugene (7-9) in the series finale at 4:05pm. Rip City Radio 620AM will begin their pregame show at 3:35pm.
