Trailing 2-0 with two outs in the seventh, Jordan Groshans brought in Dom Abbadessa with an infield single to third to break up the shutout. Otto Lopez followed with a game-tying RBI double to right, though Groshans was thrown out at the plate.
After Will McAffer (Win, 1-0) held the Whitecaps off the scoreboard in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings, striking out four, the Lugnuts mounted their biggest rally of the year to date.
After a Lopez walk, his third of the game, put runners at the corners with one out against reliever Yaya Chentouf (Loss, 1-1), Brodt dropped a flare into center field to bring home bonus runner Alejandro Kirk with the tie-breaking run.
