Late Monster Rally Snaps Slide 

MIDLAND – Corpus Christi erupted for 11 runs over the final three innings Saturday night, besting the RockHounds, 11-8, before 5,433 fans at Momentum Bank Ballpark.

Jake Adams, who joined the Hooks on Wednesday from extended spring training, broke an 8-8 tie in the 9th by launching an opposite-field three-run home run into the bullpen in right.

Midland, riding a seven-game win streak, established a 7-0 lead by sending 10 men to bat in the first. Two costly Hooks errors accounted for four of the markers.

With Jonathan Bermudez forced to exit after throwing 37 pitches to record two outs, Corpus Christi’s bullpen went to work. Nick Hernandez yielded an unearned run over 2.1 innings before giving way to Layne Henderson, who blanked Midland over 3.0 frames

Tommy DeJuneas spun a 1-2-3 sixth, setting the stage for the CC comeback.

The Hooks batted around in the seventh, plating five two-out runs. With three on, J.J. Matijevic cleared the bags by blistering a double into left field. Pedro León was next and made it 7-5 with an RBI two-bagger of his own.

After Midland mustered an unearned run in the home half, Grae Kessinger brought the Hooks back within two thanks to an eighth-inning RBI double. With two away in the frame, Marty Costes cued a ground ball that took a wicked hop past the second baseman Yerdel Vargas for a two-run single that tied the game at 8.

Following Adams’ heroics, Jon Olczak stranded a pair in the ninth by striking out Collin Theroux to end the game for his first save of the season.

With a four-game skid in the rearview mirror, CC looks to make it two in a row Sunday afternoon with Hunter Brown on the hill. Midland is slated to pitch Bryce Conley. First pitch 2 o’clock.
