Late Rally Sweeps Cyclones Out of Eastwood Field

Niles, OH- For the second straight night, the Brooklyn Cyclones jumped out to an early 2-0 lead. But for the second straight night, the Mahoning Valley Scrappers rallied late with two runs in the seventh inning for another come from behind win, 3-2. With the win the Scrappers complete the three game sweep of the Cyclones.
            Brooklyn got on the board in the top of the second inning. Quinn Brody singled to start the inning and was followed by a Jose Miguel Medina double. Ricardo Cespedes would drive in Brody with an RBI ground out. Scott Manea followed with an RBI single for the early 2-0 lead.  
            The Scrappers would tie the game in the bottom of the fourth inning. After Jason Rodriguez reached on a fielder's choice, Simeon Lucas delivered and RBI double to cut the Scrappers' deficit to just a run. Lucas then scored the tying run on Jonathan Laureano's RBI single.
            Mahoning Valley would take the lead for good in the bottom of the seventh inning. Clark Scolamiero was hit by a pitch to start the inning. One batter later he would score the eventual game winning run on and RBI double from Ernie Clement. Oscar Gonzalez would single with one out in the inning to drive home Clement to push the score out to the final of 4-2.
            Cesar Ventura struck out the side in order in the top of the ninth inning to secure the win and a three game winning streak for the Scrappers.
            Grant Hockin started for the Scrappers and took a no decision in four innings of work. He allowed two earned runs on five hits. Hockin did not walk a batter and struck out two. Kirk McCarty would follow and went 2.2 innings in relief. McCarty allowed just two hits while walking two. Ventura (1-0) picked up the victory in 2.1 innings of work. Ventura allowed just one hit and struck out five.
  The Scrappers now head to Hudson Valley to start a three game series with the Renegades beginning Friday night at 7:05. Felix Tati will get the start for the Scrappers.
