Mahoning Valley would take the lead for good in the bottom of the seventh inning. Clark Scolamiero was hit by a pitch to start the inning. One batter later he would score the eventual game winning run on and RBI double from Ernie Clement.
Grant Hockin started for the Scrappers and took a no decision in four innings of work. He allowed two earned runs on five hits. Hockin did not walk a batter and struck out two. Kirk McCarty would follow and went 2.2 innings in relief. McCarty allowed just two hits while walking two. Ventura (1-0) picked up the victory in 2.1 innings of work. Ventura allowed just one hit and struck out five.
The Scrappers now head to Hudson Valley to start a three game series with the Renegades beginning Friday night at 7:05. Felix Tati will get the start for the Scrappers.
